What Does The Bible Say About Broken Marriage?

The bible on broken marriage

People who go through a broken marriage may experience a range of emotions, such as sadness, anger, disappointment, and fear. They may also struggle with feelings of betrayal, guilt, and shame. The process of healing from a broken marriage can take time and may involve therapy, support groups, and other forms of professional help.

The Bible has much to say about marriage and relationships. In the Old Testament, God created marriage as a holy union between a man and a woman. In the book of Genesis, it states “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh” (Genesis 2:24). In the New Testament, Jesus reinforced the importance of marriage and the sanctity of the marriage covenant.

However, the Bible also recognizes that marriages can fail, and divorce is not always a sin. Jesus Himself said “And I say to you: whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery” (Matthew 19:9). Here Jesus acknowledges that there can be valid reasons for divorce, such as infidelity.

The Bible also teaches that even if a marriage ends in divorce, God can still work in the lives of those who have been through a broken marriage. The book of Isaiah states “For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you” (Isaiah 41:13). In addition, the book of Romans teaches that through faith in Jesus Christ, individuals can find forgiveness for their past mistakes and have a new beginning in their lives.

However, the Bible also teaches that reconciliation should always be sought after, if possible. The prophet Malachi wrote “For the Lord, the God of Israel, says that he hates divorce and hates the man who causes it” (Malachi 2:16)

In conclusion, while the Bible recognizes that marriages can fail and that divorce can be necessary in certain situations, it also teaches that reconciliation should always be sought after and that God can work in the lives of those who have been through a broken marriage.
